But if you want to cast your smartphone on big screen using Roku, I will tell you how. The term casting and screen mirroring look almost similar. But there are a difference. You can’t mirror the whole screen of your smartphone on TV using Roku. Only the Apps which support casting can cast there content on big screen. During casting you can control your playback by your smartphone as well as your remote, while on mirroring you can’t control your content with remote. The control is in hands of your smartphone only.
Casting let you to use your smartphone for something else, once your playback begins. You can do anything you want or you can switch off your smartphone. While in screen mirroring your smartphone should remain power on, you can only see the content which is running on the screen of your smartphone.
To use casting, first of all connect your both devices on the same wireless network. Now, follow the steps below:
Step 1: The channels you want to cast must be installed on both the devices. If they are not, then install them first.
Step 2: Launch the app on your smartphone. You don’t need to open the matching channel on your TV, it will automatically begins.
Step 3: Tap on the casting icon inside the app. In some devices, casting icon may not appear until the playback starts.
Step 4: Select your Roku device from the list of available devices in your smartphone.
Step 5: The channel will automatically open on your TV and the content start playing from the point you leave in your smartphone.
If you want to cast photos and videos from your smartphone to TV, you can do this also very easily using play option present in Roku mobile app. Roku application is available for both the platforms i.e. Android and iOS.
If you want to cast an application which do not support casting. You can mirror your screen to Roku also using your Android and windows device. Almost all the recent devices support screen mirroring. To mirror your screen follow these steps:
Step 1: Select the screen mirroring feature in your device.
Step 2: Select your Roku device when prompted to select the destination device for screen mirroring.
Step 3: After choosing your destination device, you Roku also prompt to allow the screen mirroring. Allow the connection and your Roku will start showing duplicate screen on TV.
Note: For screen mirroring, both the devices must be connected to the same wireless network.
